Mr. Curt Springer

Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV (MIU IV) honored Curt Springer with the Annie Sullivan Award at their Board of Directors meeting on November 14, 2018. Curt serves as a Behavior Consultant with MIU IV’s Training and Consultation (TaC) program.

Springer is the 31st recipient of the Annie Sullivan Award named for Helen Keller’s teacher. The award was established by MIU IV’s Labor and Management Committee to recognize an educator who shows care, concern, and skill in helping students with special needs gain acceptance in their schools and communities. He was nominated for this honor by his colleagues.

Curt has earned his Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA).  He is a Safety Care Instructor and serves on numerous committees for MIU IV including the Safety Committee and the Strategic Planning Committee.

“Curt works tirelessly to determine how to address difficult behaviors and provide skills that will aid students in becoming successful in our schools and communities,” said Melissa Wyllie, MIU IV Director of Special Education. “We are very fortunate to have him as a member of our classroom teams.”

“Curt’s diligence in connecting with teams, building relationships, modeling problem solving, sharing resources and guiding them to reach fidelity of implementation is admirable and sets him apart,” said Dr. Kathryn Poggi, Educational Consultant, BCBA, Pennsylvania Training and Technical Assistance Network (PaTTAN).

“Curt brings valuable knowledge and expertise to our Training and Consultation team,” says Richael Fertig, an MIU IV Supervisor of Special Education. “Curt’s commitment has made, and will continue to make, a positive impact in the lives of many students and educators.”

Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV is an educational service agency that provides programs and services to 27 school districts in Butler, Lawrence, and Mercer Counties.  As one of 29 Intermediate Units in Pennsylvania, MIU IV implements projects administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, the State Board of Education, the General Assembly, and the United States Department of Education.
