Overview

  • Our Continuing Education Department provides a wide variety of professional development opportunities to assist area administrators, teachers, and paraprofessional in updating information and implementing new skills. We will continue to enhance our face-to-face staff development opportunities with some alternative offerings in an effort to better serve the vast geographic region of our counties and to help the educational community stay abreast of educational trends and issues. Our efforts hope to include a combination of new opportunities for learning integrating face-to-face, blended and online learning offerings. Check back for new staff development news and workshops.

    CPE Credit Courses
    A comprehensive program of PA-approved credit courses on a variety of topics. Courses are offered in Fall, Winter /Spring and Summer sessions.     eLearning Center
    Area teachers can work at home on their Act 48 requirements through MIU IV’s eLearning Center. Online instructor-led inservice courses are approved by the PA Department of Education. All courses are interactive and media rich with audio, graphics, text, simulations, activities and exercises. New courses are added on an ongoing basis.

    Guest Teacher Training
    A great 2 day opportunity for those with a bachelor’s degree to train to become a day-to-day substitute teacher in area schools. The workshop assists participants in obtaining an Emergency Day-to-Day Substitute Certificate. All necessary forms required by the State are provided.

    Noncredit Technology Courses
    State-of-the-art technology and multimedia workshops are offered for teachers, administrators, and support staff. Workshops address job skills as well as using technology effectively in the classroom. A brochure is available online.

    Mentor Teacher
    A one day workshop for new or veteran mentors which provides processes and strategies to help mentor new teachers.

    Teacher Induction
    This program is designed to address the educational needs of teachers who are new to the profession or returning to education full-time and meets the state regulations for teacher induction as part of the certification requirement. Courses are designed to enlighten the beginning teacher's awareness of skills, strategies, activities and information based on what current research suggests as needs for first year teachers. Inductees are required to complete two courses and an action plan.
