     Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV is the lead agency for a Pre-K Counts Grant. Pre-K Counts is a high-quality preschool program that prepares preschool children (ages 3-5) for the early literacy, cognitive, and mathematical reasoning activities needed to be successful in Kindergarten by using the Pennsylvania Early Childhood State Standards and Creative Curriculum.

    Two Locations in Lawrence County
    Midwestern Intermediate Unit partners with two high-quality providers, Bright Star Learning Center and Butler County Children’s Center.
    Our classroom operated by Bright Star Learning Center is located in New Castle, 1315 East Washington Street.
    Our classroom located in Shenango is operated by Butler County Children’s Center’s and is located at Shenango Elementary School, 2501 Old Pittsburgh Road. Both locations are in Lawrence County and we encourage anyone who is interested to call so the referral process can begin.

    The Pre-K Counts Program

    • Seventeen full-day slots are available at each location for this 180-day high-quality preschool program.
    • Open to children ages 3-5.
    • The Pre-Kindergarten staff consists of a highly qualified Early Childhood Education teacher and a classroom assistant.
    • Transportation must be provided by parents to and from school and daily attendance is closely monitored.
    • Register anytime.Classes start in September, but occasionally there are openings throughout the year. Plan now for September!
    • This program is funded by a Pennsylvania Pre-K Counts Grant.
