This Year's Recipient

Mr. Will Nichols

Degrees and Certifications:

Mr. Will Nichols

Will Nichols has been honored at the November 16th MIU IV Board of Directors meeting as the 2016 recipient of the Spirit Award. Will has been the MIU IV Van Driver since 2011. Scott Powner, Director of Technology and Information services presented him with the award.

This award sponsored by the Intermediate Unit’s Labor & Management Committee was created to recognize a support staff individual who exemplifies excellence on the job, caring involvement, and involvement in the community. Several employees from MIU IV nominated Will. A selection committee representing all areas of Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV chooses recipients.

Will who calls himself just a “van driver”, couldn’t be more wrong about something. He is the face of the Intermediate Unit,” said Scott Powner, Director of Technology & Information Services. “As the Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV van driver Will doesn’t look at the people he meets as a problem, he looks at them as a friend, as someone he can help, as a prospective buyer of MIU IV services. This helps to foster great relations between the Intermediate Unit and those that we serve.”

“Will loves people, works hard, and always tries to lift the spirits of those around him.,” wrote Jamie Flaherty a Speech Language Therapist at Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV.  Jamie goes on to say: “He takes the time to ask how everyone is doing and always has a positive attitude. He provides encouragement for us and always lifts our spirits by giving us the support that we need.”

“When you talk with Mr. Will you feel important,” says Kellie Kleinert a Teacher at the Slippery Rock Area School District. “Will taught me so many things (in those short chats) that have stuck with me and are being passed on to the students that I teach every day.” Ms. Kleinhart concludes by stating “Will truly makes a difference in education, spirit, and morale.”

Secretary Sue Steim echoed these sentiments: ‘When you see Will and he greets you with that warm smile and friendly hello, it just brightens your day. He is always willing to take the time to help you with something.'

Devon Agostino a Graphic Reproductions Operator said this of Mr. Nichols: “Will Nichols demonstrates a hardworking, dependable work ethic and is respectful toward colleagues. Whenever you ask him for assistance with anything he is reliable, displays a positive attitude, and he is willing to help.”
