  • MIU IV Executive Director Selected for PASA Award

Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV’s Executive Director, Dr. Wayde Killmeyer, was selected by the Pennsylvania Association of School Administrators (PASA) as the recipient of the 2016 Award for Service to the Profession.  This award is given annually to a school system leader who demonstrates commitment to excellence as evidenced through notable service to the profession. This award will be presented to Dr. Killmeyer at the annual PASA-PSBA School Leadership Conference in Hershey, PA in October.

Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV (MIU IV) is one of 29 intermediate units in Pennsylvania and provides services to the 27 school districts in Butler, Lawrence, and Mercer Counties.  Dr. Killmeyer has served as the Executive Director of MIU IV since 2013. In addition to providing over 100 programs and services requested by area school districts, MIU IV implements projects mandated by the PA Department of Education, the State Board of Education, the General Assembly, and the US Department of Education.

Dr. Killmeyer plays an active role in the Pennsylvania Association of Intermediate Unit Executive Directors; the Forum of Western Pennsylvania Superintendents; as well as the HOPE Initiative, a regional task force dealing with the current heroin and opioid pandemic.  In 2014, he proposed that a committee of superintendents and executive directors from three other intermediate units should create a forum to discuss issues in education relevant to our region.  This forum of 75 superintendents and four executive directors developed what came to be known as the Northwest PA Superintendents’ Summit.  After the success of the 2015 Summit, another intermediate unit joined the forum which expanded the opportunity to 90 superintendents for the 2016 event.  This annual Summit serves as a means of bringing together school leaders from northwestern Pennsylvania to discuss current educational challenges, such as mandates from the Department of Education.  The school system leaders share information on current initiatives, and propose solutions to be offered to legislators with the goal of easing the burdens on school districts on this side of the state.  Pedro Rivera, PA Secretary of Education, served as the Keynote Presenter and was an active participant at the 2015 and 2016 Summits.

Prior to joining MIU IV, Dr. Killmeyer served the field of education in principal and superintendent positions in several school districts in Allegheny and Washington Counties.

Dr. Killmeyer earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Pittsburgh, his Master’s Degree in English Literature from the University of Maryland, and his Master’s Degree in Secondary Mathematics Education from Slippery Rock University.  He earned his Doctorate in Educational Leadership at Duquesne University.
